Instablogs - Mobile - Woman fired for USING ALL CAPS IN EMAIL

Vicki Walker, an Auckland (New Zealand) accountant, was sacked for sending supposedly confrontational emails with words in red, in bold and in CAPITAL LETTERS.

The Employment Relations Authority in New Zealand ruled that Walker was not fairly terminated from her position after sending the emails to co-workers. Her previous employers, ProCare, have now been ordered to pay New Zealand dollars $17,000 (US $11,500/€8000) for unfair dismissal.

That is why it is said that be careful while typing an e-mail. Using Capital letters might be considered offensive...

Yeah!! Even i don't like reading the mails in the bold or capital letters. Plus she used red color as well... hmmm that's not acceptable.

According to several ”Netiquette” (Internet Etiquette), writing entire sentences, paragraphs or documents in capital letters is the equivalent of shouting. Using a conspicuous color change and bold fonts only emphasizes the ”shouting.

I can see why people would be uncomfortable with receiving e-mails like this constantly, especially in the workplace.

Turning off caps and then type is very simple…anyone can do that…she better sit at home if doesn’t know the basic fundamentals of typing…that too official e-mails.

Whenever I asked for some clarifications from USA head office, I got my answer in red. I never thought it is for ’shouting’.
